I remember the day that Eats Beats ultimately decided the title for this album. One of the truest friends I’ve had the pleasure of knowing in this life, he lived through every phase of this album’s story. He made me realize why Meditate Everyday was the only choice. “It’s been your mantra.” he said. And he was right. Ever since I started trying to tell this story, those two words have been on the tip of my tongue. Meditation was the only way out of the hell that I was living in at the time. Keep The Change, the album’s intro is not about the story, but about the place I began writing it. I was on the verge of suicide daily. Ready to leave this world and the shame and embarrassment that it brought upon me. I couldn’t leave my bed. I felt as if the entirety of my life was over and I had no other choice than to check out. My only savior in that moment was my breath. It was the closest thing to God that I could find. I did not control it. It kept me alive despite myself. I would sit on the back porch of my grandma’s house and follow my breath as I cleared my mind of all that I thought. It made me realize that my thoughts were nothing but symbols to keep me trapped in the past and in fear of the future. When I focused on my breath, and nothing else, I was truly in the moment. A spiritual being having a human experience, completely in the now. What a beautiful place to be for a man with so much regret and insecurity. I came across those words in the first notebook I bought after I was released from the mental health facility i was placed on 5250 at. Meditate Everyday. It became my mantra. Two years later, it remains my mantra. And if you listen closely to this album, you may understand why.
